Review of Therapy for You (NHS Talking Therapies) NE Essex
19th April 2024

My therapist was absolutely brilliant with me, she gave me time to explain in my own way, taught me that it's actually ok to ask for help no matter how hard. Gave me a voice when I honestly didn't feel heard and was so patient with me, also very caring.

Suggested improvements
You all do an absolute fantastic job, just continue doing what you all do.

Review of Southend Primary Care Mental Health Team

After previous attempts to get the help i felt i needed for my mental health and being turned away, left to feel like it wasn’t possible to be helped, i was finally given the opportunity by Mental Health Practitioner Carley Morgan. Even after the just the first Phone call i had with Carley i felt assured that i was going to find my light at the end of the tunnel. i thought having a Face to Face assessment was going to be scary, but it was the complete opposite, Carley was very easy to talk to, not once did i feel silly for the things i had gone through, nor did i feel judged. I can’t fault her one bit !

Suggested improvements
The only thing that could’ve been better, was if i was given Carley Morgan sooner.

I didn’t want an anti depressant as an additional medication. I actually wanted to reduce my dose of the medication I was on but that wasn’t an option. I have not heard from the psychotherapy department either.

Suggested improvements
As above

Corrine has been absolutely amazing and has been a huge help in making me feel better and understanding myself. I cannot sing her praises enough. I am so grateful for the time and care that has been shown to me and will treasure this forever. I cannot thank you enough. I still have a journey but have come a long way with the help and understanding of an extremely knowledgeable and caring person.

Suggested improvements
Cannot think of anything better, but appreciate all the help given. Thank you so much :)

Review of Therapy for You (NHS Talking Therapies) NE Essex

The timeliness was an issue for me, I initially self referred in August 2023 and did not receive any treatment until the beginning of April. Instead of having 6 sessions I only needed 3 sessions as things had improved since my initial referral. However I did find the talking sessions very useful and the therapist, Rose, was very kind and understanding.

Suggested improvements
Earlier availability of therapy

I was totally happy with the service provided.

Suggested improvements
Hard to iden anything you could improve on. I just wish there was an equivalent service nearer to where I live in Shoeburyness.

Review of Primary Care Mental Health Team - North East

First it is very hard as there is no way of ever contacting the service, to reply to the sms you have a short amount of time to do so then it times out and you can only send 1 response. Only contact number you are given is Samaritans or 999 which is no good if I only need to contact you to change appointment time. Once my gps practice manager managed to contact the service for me but informed me she could not give out your number to patients. Often no time slots given so waiting for phone to ring which is hard when working etc. numerous times I wasn’t contacted and my appointments were missed which is upsetting when feeling anxious anyway about speaking with someone and then not receiving the appointment. The telephone calls were often 5 minutes of asking how life was and if medication needed changing. Took over a week for Darians prescriber colleague to prescribe citalopram- it was my pharmacist at my gp who chased this for me and eventually got me the medication. Counselling I received was 6 weeks of 20 minute phone calls which was disappointing as thought the nhs would offer more than this but was told if I wanted any more would need to pay privately. The couples counselling I was given the information on was in Kent so a 3 hour round trip each time i would go to therapy so clearly inappropriate! Overall the community mental health service has been as disappointing as the postnatal mental health service I received in 2021. I have been a qualified nurse for 12 years proudly working for the nhs so understand the hardship the nhs faces and the pressures staff and services are under but feel failed once again when my mental health has suffered since having children.

Suggested improvements
To give out a contact number for your service so patients can rearrange appointments if needed. To remember to phone patients if they have a booked appointment. For your nurses to not have open social media accounts as this is unprofessional and I would say a high risk for your staff working with patients with mental health conditions.
